Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will launch for PlayStation 5 on June 11, publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Insomniac Games announced.
This new game is called
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and it will be a sequel to 2013’s
Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus. It’s the fifth game in the main timeline of the franchise, meaning it’s not explicitly linked to the 2016 Ratchet and Clank movie or its tie-in game.
The Digital Deluxe version of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will involve things that help you appreciate what went into the game. It is $79.99 and gives people a digital art book and digital art book to enjoy outside of the game. While you’re playing, you’ll also have access to 20 Raritanium, to help you with in-game upgrades, five extra sets of armor, and a pack of virtual stickers to dress up screenshots taken in Photo Mode.
Gameplay
The extended gameplay demo begins with a cutscene as Ratchet and Clank return to Megalopolis, noting that they still have time to stop Dr. Nefarious. A squad of Goon-4-Less attack, leading into the actual gameplay. The Lombax and his robot sidekick make their way through the city, disposing of enemies via a selection of new weapons and the former’s trusted OmniWrench.
Eventually facing off against Dr. Nefarious, Ratchet damages the former’s “Dimensionator” causing numerous rifts to materialize, which consequently transports creatures from other worlds into theirs. Ratchet and Clank pursue Nefarious until a rift appears and pushes them through the same dimension hopping sequence shown in the announcement trailer.
That’s right, two fan-favorites will make their way into Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The Carbonox armor from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (2003) is now updated with high-definition materials, lighting responses, and ray-traced reflections. Players will also receive an early-unlock of the Pixelizer weapon, the retro-blaster from Ratchet & Clank (2016), also updated visually for the PS5 console.
