Ubisoft acquires Idle Miner Tycoon developer Kolibri Games

It looks like Ubisoft is continuing their push into the free-to-play market with the company's newest acquisition of Kolibri, a developer who is most well known for Idle Miner Tycoon. Ubisoft has been undergoing something of a company transformation as of late, with the company having delayed a number of their most popular franchises in order to ensure all of Ubisoft's upcoming titles feel unique and distinct from each other, especially after the disappointing launch of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.

Idle games have proven to be a popular subgenre of gaming, especially in internet browsers and mobile markets, and Kolibri Games, which is based out of Berlin, Germany, has carved out a strong niche with their titles Idle Factory Tycoon and Idle Miner Tycoon. Based on the same gameplay loop which was popularized in the internet phenomenon Cookie Clicker, these games rely on a balance of stat management, tapping, and waiting. While not embraced by everyone in the gaming community, many players still enjoy the idle game genre, even after bitingly-satirical takes on the process like Progress Quest were released.Furthermore,You can buy cheap Idle Miner Tycoon Super Cash at z2u.com by using the code “Z2U” for a 3% discount.

Based in Berlin, the studio – which was previously known as Fluffy Fairy Games – was founded in 2016 and currently employs around 100 staff. It’s most popular title is Idle Miner Tycoon, which has been downloaded by more than 104 million players worldwide since releasing in 2016, reportedly making Kolibri “one of the premier developers of mobile free-to-play games and one of the leaders of the ‘idle’ games genre”. The acquisition was completed on January 31st, 2020, and the agreement gives Ubisoft the option of “gradually raising its stake” in Kolibri Games to 100 per cent over the next four years.

Ubisoft seems to show no sign of slowing down in their push to become one of the world's biggest gaming publishers, and moves like acquiring popular small developers and pushing back AAA releases like Watch Dogs: Legion in order to ensure quality will likely only improve their standing moving forward. Hopefully this acquisition of Kolibi Games will prove a fruitful investment, not just for the companies involved but for the players as well. After all, an expensive, polished, Ubisoft-branded idle game might be exactly what the genre needs to gain mainstream success.
